Keeping your security screens clean is essential to ensure they remain effective in keeping your home safe and secure from intruders. Here’s a complete guide to cleaning your security screens which will not only make them look great but also help them last longer. Don’t feel like reading the guide? Check out our video below featuring Jacob from Cobba’s Pro Wash:

Step 1: Gather the Required Materials

Before you start cleaning your security screens, gather the necessary materials. You’ll need:

  • A soft-bristled brush (an indoor broom with soft-end bristles works fine)
  • A bucket of warm water
  • Mild dish soap (morning fresh works great)
  • A microfiber cloth or sponge
  • A hose or pressure washer with a gentle setting

Step 2: Brush Away Loose Debris

Using a soft-bristled brush, gently brush away any loose debris such as dirt, dust, or spider webs from the screens. Be sure to brush both sides of the screen thoroughly. This step will make the cleaning process easier and more effective.

Step 3: Prepare the Cleaning Solution

Fill a bucket with warm water and add a small amount of mild dish soap. Mix the solution until suds form. Dish soap is a gentle cleaner that won’t damage the screens.

Step 4: Clean the Screens

Pre-rinse the screen with your hose to remove any of the lose dirt/grime.

Using your brush, dip it into the cleaning solution and gently scrub the screens. Be sure to cover both sides of the screens and pay extra attention to areas that have accumulated dirt or grime. If dealing with stubborn stains or dirt buildup, you can use a soft-bristled brush to scrub them away. Ensure that cleaning fluids do not penetrate into the lock or cylinder.

Step 5: Rinse the Screens

Once you’ve finished cleaning the screens, it’s time to rinse them off. Use a hose or pressure washer with a gentle setting for this step. Be sure to rinse both sides of the screens thoroughly, making sure that all the soap suds and debris are removed. Avoid using high-pressure settings, as they can damage the screens. at the end flush the tracks and higher areas for the best result.

Step 6: Dry the Screens

After rinsing the screens, use a clean microfiber cloth or towel to dry them thoroughly. Be sure to dry both sides of the screens, making sure that there’s no moisture left. This will prevent water spots and rust from forming on the screens.

how often should I clean my Security screens?

As a general rule, if you are in a mild marine environment (as most Brisbane residents are), more than 10kms from salt water, you should aim to clear your security screens every six months. If you are within 10kms of salt water then reduce this to every 2-3 months and within 1km of salt water, once per month.

ForceField is one of very few complete security screens that has passed the 1,000 hour neutral salt spray test – most manufacturers only test the mesh. But we took it a step further. As one of only two complete security screens on the market – Prowler Proof Protec being the other – ForceField has also passed the 1,000 hour acetic acid salt spray test. With a pH similar to vinegar, acetic acid salt spray is 10,000 times more acidic than neutral salt spray. ForceField’s 316 marine grade stainless steel mesh has survived a 10,000 hour neutral salt spray test as well.
