Can I Install a Dog Door in a Security Screen?

This is a question that we get asked a lot here at Absolute Security. Our answer is: “Absolutely you can!”. Can I DIY Install my own dog door?

We can do the hard work for you and supply and install a pet door on your existing security screen or security door. We are a authorised Prowler Proof dealers, however, we can retrofit a pet door to any other brand of security door. It is important to note that we don’t install Pet Doors to insect screens , glass or timber

You can of course do this yourself, however you will need to have access to and confidence using tools such as bolt cutters / hacksaw /angle grinder, phillips head screwdriver, roller wheel, marker pen, stanley knife and a tape measure. If you’re unsure it’s not worth the risk of damaging your security screen.

I have a tiny/huge dog is that OK?

Absolutely – in fact our dog doors come in 3 sizes – small/medium/large. Although it is important to keep in mind that a long-legged dog can still get through a small pet door. We recommend choosing the smallest pet door size needed. You can always cut the dimensions of the flap opening out of a piece of cardboard to see which size is most comfortable for your pet. It is important to remember that you can always upgrade your door size at a later date (however you cannot downgrade without replacing the security screen itself).

Can i install a pet door for my cat?

We can install a pet door on any security screen you might have, for cats this might mean a window. Anywhere you can imagine a pet door in your security screen we can fit it! One of the unique things that we do in house, is that we have custom made packers that we use for installations to stainless steel mesh. This ensures the pet door doesn’t rattle around and creates a snug, good-quality installation.

How do I stop my pet from coming and going?

The pet doors come with a latch allowing you to restrict access from inside and/or outside. This function can be useful, during times when you want to keep your pet inside or outside of your house.

How long does it take to install a pet door?
