Security Screens Compared: Prowler Proof vs Crimsafe

When choosing security screens for your home, it can be difficult to know which brand to go with, especially with such a large range of manufacturers all claiming that their products are the best. Which is why we have created this guide which compares some of the security screen industries most popular manufacturers: Prowler Proof and Crimsafe. Both Prowler Proof and Crimsafe offer a stainless steel mesh product. Prowler Proof uses a chemical and mechanical bond system whereas Crimsafe uses a screw clamp system. Another key difference is that Prowler Proof ForceField is made with 316 Marine Grade Stainless Steel Mesh, whereas Crimsafe is made with 304 Structural Grade Stainless Steel Mesh.

Prowler Proof has undergone extensive testing and surpasses all the standard security screen tests. The toughest test a security screen can go through is a cyclone test, Prowler Proof ForceField security screens were tested at the James Cook University Cyclone Testing Station and withstood a 65km/hr corner impact and centre impacts at speeds of up to 104km/hr. The results of this test give you confidence that the ForceField security screen is the strongest residential security screen on the market. Few if any other standard residential security screens have passed this gruelling test.

Below is a more detailed explanation of each point

  • All Prowler Proof products have a fully welded frame which means no ugly mitred corner. Having a seamless welded corner makes the frame so much stronger and looks a lot nicer as well.  The strength of the frame also means that a Prowler Proof doors won’t require a midrail to pass the Australian Standards of a security door. Depending on the width of your door, most other brands will need this to pass. We recommend asking if your door will require a midrail when obtaining a quote.
  • Prowler Proof use a chemical/mechanical bond (similar to the way adhesives are used to make aeroplanes – it’s virtually unbreakable) to adhere the mesh to the frame.  This assists insulating the stainless steel mesh from the aluminium frame which reduces the occurrence of corrosion. Other brands use screws and/or wedge/clamp methods.  If your products are not manufactured correctly there are increased risks of corrosion and products not performing as they are designed. Corrosion is a common issue in stainless steel mesh products so its very important to do your research on how your screens are manufactured.
  • Prowler Proof offer a 10 year FULL REPLACEMENT warranty on all products. You don’t have to register your warranty, you don’t have to prove you’ve cleaned your screens every 6 months, you don’t get a repair – you’ll get a brand new product with another 10 year warranty. Most other warranty’s will take your screen away and try to repair it, which means are without a security screen for a number of weeks.

  1. Hi, I am looking at having 2 screen doors replaced in the apartment I have just purchased. I am also wanting a dog door installed in one of them. Is this something that could be done at the same time and maintain safety/security of the screen?
